Excellent quality and service! After a terrible microwaved meal in the main part of town we headed out in search of something more authentic. There was a steep climb to reach the restaurant which was totally worth it.
A lovely waitress saw to us and was able to offer items off the menu since I had a dietary request for a vegan option. The food was excellent and good value for money compared with what you'd pay in the more touristy places.
Some of the bad reviews here surprise me, but I'd certainly say it's better to try here than get ripped off in town with frozen, microwaved meal!!I have to give this place a 5 because it is the best experience in Rio I have had. The other places along the tourist area were really not that great and overcrowded. This is a little out of the way but worth it. This is a little out of the way but worth it. If you are along the water and can't find a table give this place a try. It is up in the mountain area about a 20min walk front the train station. It is quiet and a very relaxing environment.
The food and service was top notch. I had the smoked swordfish wrapped in cheese for my first dish for my second dish I had the rabbit with fresh vegetables. Both were excellent!
The area is known for its fresh seafood but I've had seafood for the last two days so I was willing to try something new. Don't settle for the fried fish or the take-home pizza tried to try this place. The price for the total meal including a glass of wine and a cocktail was €40.We cannot say enough good things about our dinner here! The best pesto we have ever eaten...they make their pesto in house. The ravioli (stuffed pasta) is also made in house and was beyond words. The staff are kind and funny, the view of the sunset is great. Seriously, do yourself a favor and go eat here!!

Just wanted to thank the good people of Ripa del Sole for a perfect evening tonight - and especially Eduardo for looking after us so well. He made excellent recommendations for our three courses tonight, all of which came from the local area and all of which were (to use Eduardo's words) "outstanding". We had a really enjoyable evening, the view was spectacular, and the meals were very reasonably priced for this area - coming to around €30 a head including a bottle of wine for our party of 4 international tourists. And talk about accomodating - despite being walk-ins with no reservation, our request to move closer to the window where there was a breeze (our vain attempt to deal with the 30°C heat) was met with an almost immediate rearranging of chairs and tables, leaving us in a much more comfortable position. One of our party also had some esoteric food allergies (I joke and say "she can't eat people food"), and the staff were more than willing and able to accomodate her meals. In short, it was a perfect evening, and I can't recommend Ripa del Sole highly enough. It is a bit of a walk up the steep hill through Riomaggiore, but you'll be glad you made the effort. Well worth checking out when you're in town.Diner after a fool day through the cinque terre on the top of riomaggiore. As it was said by otherse. It needs to be deserved you need to climb the steps from the Main Street to get there. But honestly this is worth the effort. Antipasti was great. The main course was even better and the desert was Even better. Service can be a little bit long but very friendly and overall a great experience after a beautiful day.
Fantastic views and dinner. Our server Eduardo made great recommendations. The seafood in particular was delicious.
